Waiver & Code of Conduct

By registering for Baseball For Bums, you acknowledge and agree to these terms in full. Read carefully before participating in any league activity.

Important: Baseball involves physical contact, hard balls & bats, running, sliding, collisions, and uneven field conditions. Participation is voluntary and carries real risk of injury.

§ 01

Assumption of Risk

I understand that participating in Baseball For Bums league activities — including games, practices, warmups, and related events — involves inherent risks including but not limited to: sprains, strains, fractures, concussions, heat illness, cardiac events, collisions with players or objects, and injuries caused by bats, balls, and field conditions.

I knowingly and voluntarily assume all such risks, whether known or unknown, foreseeable or unforeseeable, arising from my participation.

§ 02

Waiver & Release of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, I release and hold harmless Baseball For Bums, the league commissioner, league organizers, staff, volunteers, sponsors, partners, and field/property owners from any and all claims, liabilities, damages, or causes of action arising out of or related to my participation — including claims based on negligence, except to the extent prohibited by law.

§ 03

Medical Treatment & Emergency Care

If I am injured or become ill, I authorize league organizers to seek emergency medical treatment on my behalf if I am unable to do so. I understand I am solely responsible for all medical costs and that the league does not provide any medical insurance coverage.

§ 04

Fitness to Participate

I affirm that I am physically able to participate and will not engage in any activity for which I am not medically cleared. I should consult a physician if I have any medical concerns prior to participation.

§ 05

Sportsmanship & Code of Conduct

All participants are expected to maintain a respectful, competitive, and safe environment at all times. The following are strictly prohibited:

  • Fighting, threats, harassment, discrimination, or hate speech
  • Intentional attempts to injure another player
  • Excessive profanity directed at any player, umpire, or spectator
  • Alcohol or drug impairment during games
  • Vandalism or disrespect of field property

Umpire Authority: Umpires have full and final authority over all on-field decisions. All decisions are final. Arguing, abusive language, or unsportsmanlike conduct toward an umpire may result in immediate ejection.

§ 06

Commissioner Authority & Discipline

The League Commissioner oversees all disciplinary matters related to player conduct, rule violations, safety concerns, and behavior detrimental to the league. For standard violations, the Commissioner may act directly. For significant or contested decisions — including multi-game suspensions, playoff ineligibility, or removal from the league — the matter will be reviewed by a League Review Committee of at least two additional league representatives before a final decision is issued.

This committee process exists to ensure fairness, reduce bias, and protect both players and the league from one-sided outcomes.

Automatic Penalty — Ejection
1-Game Suspension
+ Removal from Current Game

Following committee review, additional penalties may include:

  • Extended or multi-game suspensions
  • Playoff ineligibility
  • Full season suspension
  • Permanent removal from the league

All disciplinary decisions made through the committee process are final and not subject to further appeal. Players removed due to conduct violations will not receive a refund of league fees.

§ 07

Scheduling & Rainouts

Schedules may change due to field availability, weather, or operational needs. Rainout policy: Any rained-out game will be rescheduled for the following Tuesday* or the next available field date, subject to availability.

* Tuesday is the default makeup date. If the field is unavailable, the league will communicate the next available slot as soon as possible.

§ 08

Media Release

I grant Baseball For Bums permission to use photos and videos taken during league activities for league-related promotion — including social media, website, and game recaps — unless I notify the league in writing to opt out.
